Song Seung-heon was born on October 5, 1976, in Mia-dong, Gangbuk District, Seoul, South Korea. He attended Kyonggi University. Before his acting career, he began as a model in 1995 for the jeans brand STORM. His acting debut followed shortly after modelling, with his first noted television appearance in the sitcom Three Guys and Three Girls (1996). He became widely popular across Asia when he starred in the drama Autumn in My Heart (2000), which helped pioneer what is often called the Korean Wave or Hallyu. He took roles in other major dramas such as Summer Scent (2003) and East of Eden (2008) Over the years, Song expanded from romantic lead roles to more complex characters. In a 2023 interview he described how, after nearly 30 years in the industry, he now finds acting fun and is looking to break out of his kind and righteous.
